Opportunity assessment for a $100M food production company

Tell Us About Your Project

The Challenge

A leading food production company sought to evaluate entry into a new category and determine both the attractiveness of the market and the optimal go-to-market strategy.

The Approach

We conducted a comprehensive assessment of market attractiveness, evaluating macroeconomic conditions, evolving foodservice dynamics, and shifting consumer demand across regions, generations, and channels. This work provided insight into where sustainable growth exists, what risks could impair entry, and the optimal price point to support long-term value creation.

Our work integrated:

  • Macroeconomic analysis
  • Away-from-home and foodservice channel insights
  • Around 20 in-depth conversations with foodservice executives in our network
  • Consumer data and custom survey work: (n=600) of frequent away-from-home diners who ordered within the category in the past six months
  • Operator and channel-level trend analysis: (n=100) decision makers from independent restaurants that actively purchase the category

The Results

We delivered a clear, actionable view on category entry viability, including:

  • Identification of high-conviction demand drivers and areas of sustainable growth
  • Prioritization of target segments, channels, and regions with the most attractive growth and return potential
  • Quantification of pricing power and willingness to pay across key customer cohorts
  • Assessment of competitive dynamics and operator strategies, informing differentiation opportunities
  • Strategic recommendations outlining how to enter and win in the category while mitigating key risks

This work provided the client with a data-backed foundation to confidently evaluate the investment and align on a path to value creation.
